Modern Foreign Languages

French is studied by all students in year 7 and year 8 and for those students who follow the Ebac route in years 9, 10 and 11. Spanish is currently being studied by students in year 10.

The language skills that our students will develop enable them to be competitive in a multi-lingual global society. They will also have a broad understanding of the culture where French is spoken. Students follow the Expo scheme of work in Phase 1 which provides an introduction to French through a variety of different topics.

The four-unit specification at GCSE level in Phase 2 requires students to develop their ability to write and speak in French and to understand French when it is written down or spoken. There is equal weighting of 25% for the listening, reading, speaking and writing units that are sat at the end of year 11.
