Media Studies

The aim of the GCSE Media Studies course is to enable students to have a deeper understanding of how the world around them is influenced by the media. Students will explore how they use many forms of media texts every day for entertainment, information and communication purposes and analyse how this shapes and effects their lives.

Media Studies offers students the opportunity to look at how technology is developing on a global scale, how this is affecting the media and how they engage with it.

The WJEC Eduqas specification states that the GCSE course ‘offers learners the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding…It introduces them to a theoretical framework for analysing the media, which also underpins study of the media at AS and A level.’ This course will provide students with the grounding needed to study Media Studies in Higher Education, along with a variety of invaluable skills now preferred by many contemporary employers.
