The Art curriculum is all about learning, experimenting and developing new skills. They will produce final pieces based on what they have learnt within the subject and expressing themselves in creative ways.

Phase One

Students learn to:

  • Record, select and develop ideas in their sketchbook
  • Experiment with and develop an understanding of different materials, tools and techniques
  • Work independently and in groups
  • Evaluate, refine and communicate their ideas
  • Look at other artists, craftspeople and designers from different times and cultures
  • Evaluate, discuss and annotate their own and others work
  • Use specialist vocabulary

Students use a range of materials and processes:

  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Printmaking
  • Textiles
  • 3D elements
  • Mixed media
  • Design
  • Craft and Jewellery making

Phase Two

If students choose to continue their art studies into phase two we offer three different Art based courses, Art, Craft and Design, Art Textiles and Photography. These courses are designed to develop skills through the variety of pathways within the subject. It is all about experimenting and mastering different techniques involved in the specific areas. They have the opportunity to create their own pieces as well as looking at works of professional Artists, Craftspeople, Designers and photographers.

The Arts help students feel more self-confident and prepare them for problem solving, development of communication and it gives students a better understanding of how to progress into the creative industry.
