Staff Leavers

Miss J Holmes

Miss Holmes has been at Royds Hall for 2 years and is leaving us this summer for a new role. Alongside teaching Art and Food Technology, she ran a very popular Chef club which students thoroughly enjoyed. Students and staff will miss her and we wish her all the best.

Miss G Bilby

Miss Bilby has been at Royds Hall for 7 years and is leaving us this summer for a new role closer home to be able to spend more time with her family. Miss Bilby has not only taught English but has been the Key Stage 3 lead within the English department and has played a key role in changes to the Key stage 3 curriculum, including the texts that students study. She has also more recently been the Literacy Lead for school and has arranged successful events such as World Book day and the Christmas Book shop. She will be missed by staff and students and we wish her all the best for the future.

Miss M Williams

Miss Williams has been at Royds Hall for 2 years and is leaving us this summer for a new role. She will be sadly missed by students and colleagues and has been a fantastic form tutor alongside teaching Science and supporting with other activities across school. We wish her all the best.

Student News

Student Leadership Updates

It has been a busy and exciting half-term for our Student Leadership Team, with many opportunities for our students to develop their leadership skills and make a positive contribution to school life.

We are delighted to announce that 40 students have been successfully appointed as our new Senior Students. Following a competitive selection process, we have also appointed our Junior Leadership Team (JLT), consisting of one Head Student, two Deputy Head Students and two Vice Head Students. Congratulations to all of our successful applicants.

Our Senior Students have already begun to make a valuable contribution to the school community. Their first leadership event was supporting our Year 6 Transition Evening, where they welcomed students and their families, helping them to feel settled and excited about joining our school.

We have also been incredibly proud of the student-led assemblies delivered this half-term by our Diversity Ambassadors, Eco Ambassadors, and Sports and Physical Health Ambassadors. These assemblies showcased our students' enthusiasm, leadership and commitment to promoting important values and initiatives across the school.

More recently, all students have had the opportunity to apply for one of our ambassador roles. We have been delighted by the high level of interest and the quality of applications received. I am currently working alongside the members of staff linked to each ambassador role to complete the selection process, and we look forward to welcoming our new ambassadors in the coming weeks.

We are excited to see our student leaders continue to grow in confidence, develop their leadership skills, and make a positive impact throughout the school over the coming year.

As we look ahead to the new academic year, we are looking forward to welcoming our new Year 7 students and recruiting the next group of student leaders. We can't wait to see them embrace the opportunities available, develop their confidence and leadership skills, and become an important part of our Student Leadership Team from September.

Sports Day

On 9th July, we held our first Royds Hall Sports Day in 3 years and it was an absolutely fantastic event.

The students' effort, attitude and competitiveness were a credit to school, and some of them definitely surprised us with hidden Olympic-level talent. We are so proud of every single participant.

The Roydsian

Students across all year groups have worked together to help re-create 'The Roydsian' - the school's original newsletter from 1922.

We are extremely proud of the students who contributed and hope to keep more issues coming!

Bushcraft Residential Visit

On Sunday 28^th June, 47 intrepid explorers from Years 7 and 8 (and some very brave teachers) set off on our annual Bushcraft trip to Castle Howard near York. This was a fantastic experience, giving students the opportunity to step away from their usual routines, embrace the outdoors and develop valuable life skills.

Over the course of the 3-day trip, students took part in activities including fire lighting, shelter building, navigation, campfire cooking, wilderness first aid, and team challenges, all led by experienced instructors.

The residential encouraged students to build resilience, confidence and independence while working together to solve problems and support one another. It was wonderful to see friendships strengthen, students step outside their comfort zones and everyone take pride in their achievements. The behaviour, enthusiasm and determination shown throughout the trip were exceptional, and the students represented both themselves and the school brilliantly. We are incredibly proud of everything they accomplished.

Students returned on the Tuesday tired, in need of a bath, but having had a brilliant time. A massive thank you to all the staff who helped make the experience such a success. We look forward to even more students taking part next year.

Y10 Maths Study Day

We had the pleasure of taking some of Year 10 students to a Maths Study Day at Bradford University.

Students explored recurring decimals and compound measures in more depth, picking up problem-solving strategies along the way.

The students took part in a Maths competition against 5 other schools, with one of our Royds Hall teams winning 1st place! A huge well done to all involved!

SHARP Response Visit

Last week, several of our Year 8 and Year 10 students enjoyed a fantastic educational visit to the local Fire Station, where they had the opportunity to explore the important work of our emergency services.

Students learnt about the specialist equipment used by firefighters, tried on firefighting uniforms, used the fire hoses, and climbed aboard the fire engines, giving them a real insight into the role of the fire and rescue service.

The day also included a powerful knife-crime awareness workshop, where firefighters demonstrated life-saving first aid techniques and taught students how to respond safely and appropriately in the event of a knife-related incident.

We have had fantastic feedback from the fire service staff delivering the workshops, who commented on how enthusiastic well-behaved and respectful our students were. They represented the school brilliantly.
