Student News

Student Leadership

Our student leaders and ambassadors have continued to play an active and positive role across the school this half term. The Junior Leadership Team recently held a further meeting with the Senior Leadership Team, where they  represented their peers with confidence and maturity. A follow-up meeting is already planned for the coming weeks to discuss the ‘HT4 Belonging’ student voice, ensuring that students continue to play a key role in shaping our school community.

As we look ahead to the transition period for our Year 11 students, members of the current Senior Student Team will be working alongside Miss Bell to lead an assembly aimed at recruiting the next cohort of senior students. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to step forward and take on key leadership roles within the school.

Our Culture Ambassadors have also made a valuable contribution this half term, sharing ideas and helping to shape our Culture Day. Their input continues to strengthen our commitment to recognising and celebrating diversity across the school.

This half term, we are also beginning to trial a new initiative where pupils will organise and manage lunchtime equipment. As confidence develops, we hope students will begin to lead their own activities and sessions for their peers. This will become a key focus for our Sports and Physical Health Ambassadors moving into next year, providing further opportunities for students to develop leadership skills while promoting active and healthy lifestyles.

It continues to be a privilege to see our students grow in confidence and take pride in their roles as leaders within the school.

World Book Day

World Book Day 2026 announcements - World Book DayWorld Book Day was a wonderful success, bringing a real buzz of excitement and creativity across the school.

The genre-inspired staff outfits sparked excitement, curiosity and lots of discussion about books, helping to bring reading to life across the school. Students were highly engaged throughout the day, eagerly guessing genres, sharing favourite stories and enjoying the sense of fun created by staff involvement.

A special highlight was Ms Dyson's Literary Careers Hunt, encouraging students to make links between reading and future aspirations in an interactive                                                                             and memorable way.

It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm for books and learning, and the day truly reinforced our shared love of reading.

Women in Construction

During National Careers Week, students visited the 'Women in Construction' event at Kirklees College Brunel Centre.

The students had the opportunity to explore a range of construction-related careers through four hands‑on workshops, talks, and activities delivered by industry professionals and college staff. This event was a fantastic chance to experience real construction-based activities and learn more about pathways into the industry.

Scholars Experience a Day at Durham University

Our Scholars recently enjoyed an inspiring and memorable visit to Durham University, giving them valuable insight into university life.

Students took part in a guided college tour and a thought-provoking session titled 'The Game of University Life', where they had the chance to hear first-hand about student life, accommodation and the unique collegiate system that makes Durham such a distinctive university.

In the afternoon, students were treated to a tour of Durham Cathedral and a viewing of Shakespeare's First Folio, held in the cathedral library.

Adding to this unique experience, students also worked with a PhD researcher on a virtual reality game being developed for use in history lessons, demonstrating how cutting-edge technology is being used to bring the past to life.

The visit concluded with a wider campus tour, leaving students inspired, enthusiastic and already thinking about their future pathways.

What Pupils Said

"Visiting Durham University helped me learn about different communities, and I even got to see Shakespeare's very first book! It was an experience I'll never forget."

"Visiting Durham University helped me realise that university could be for me. I loved the smaller colleges because they felt welcoming and friendly, like a family."

Culture Day

We celebrated Culture Day on Monday 23rd March, where students and staff are encouraged to wear cultural or traditional clothing.

The PE Department got into the spirit by representing British Culture as a Full English Breakfast!

British Science Week: Curiosity

This year, the theme for science week was 'Curiosity in Science'. Before the week started, pupils were encouraged to think of and write out any questions based on scientific ideas they were curious about—from everyday phenomena to big scientific mysteries.

These questions then became the starting point for our 'Curiosity in Science' week. Pupils took part in a range of practical demonstrations and investigations designed to explore, test, and answer their own ideas. By linking hands‑on experiments directly to pupil questions, lessons were driven by curiosity, discussion, and active thinking.

Classes also enjoyed a full lesson dedicated to celebrating the wonder of science. Pupils were encouraged to observe carefully, make predictions, and reflect on how scientific thinking helps us understand the world around us. Engagement levels were high, with pupils eager to ask further questions and share their ideas with confidence.

What Pupils Said

  • “I liked all the practicals"
  • "I liked how we got to ask questions"
  • "The density practical was interesting to see how the layers formed and we could get involved"

Curiosity Poster Competition

To extend learning beyond the classroom, pupils took part in a competition to design a poster based on the theme of curiosity. The posters focused on:

  • Why curiosity is important in science
  • How asking questions helps us learn
  • How pupils see themselves learning and discovering in the future

The competition encouraged creativity, reflection, and a growth mindset, with pupils proudly sharing their ideas about becoming curious, independent learners.
