Reminders & Messages

Acts of Kindness Project

Throughout this month, we are inviting all students to take part in our Ramadan Acts of Kindness Project - a month-long challenge to spread kindness, generosity and compassion within school and our community. Each day, students will be encouraged to complete a simple yet meaningful act of kindness, reflecting the values of charity, empathy and gratitude that Ramadan teaches us.

From PC Reid

I am holding an event at Holmfirth Police Station for Year 10 & Year 11 students. This will be on the 8th April in the evening. The event will allow students to meet a variety of officers from across different sections of the force, including CSI and Traffic. The students can also gather information on recruitment and find out more about the different roles on offer. They are welcome to attend with their parents.

If this is something your child would be interested in, please email Ms Carter to secure a place: hollie.carter@sharemat.co.uk

Safety Message

Please be reminded that we ask if you bring your child to school by car, that you drop them outside the school grounds, parking legally & safely. They can then walk up the drive to school.

If you have no choice but to enter the school grounds, we ask that you keep to the speed limit of 5mph, and park in the allocated spaces and not on the school drive. Please also be aware of the school vehicle gates opening.

Thank you for your cooperation.

World Book Day

The students participated in a Scavenger Hunt featuring famous women, based on the book Fantastically Great Women Who Change the World.

Staff wore fobs on their lanyards featuring an inspirational woman and a fact about them, which students had to collect and record.

The lucky winners received a signed copy of Igloo.

Well done to Bernice Onyia and Arwaa Amin!

Author Visits

Students had the opportunity to meet two authors this month - Jennifer Burkinshaw, author of Igloo, and Philippa Gregory, author of Normal Women.

They took part in writing workshops and also created a presentation about an amazing local woman, which they delivered to students from other schools.

Year 9 Manchester Trip

Year 9 students set off to Manchester for their History and Geography trip!

Students completed fieldwork around Salford Quays to investigate whether the regeneration was a success. Students also visited the Imperial War Museum to explore stories of war and conflict from the past.

The students behaved superbly, and a great time was had by all!

Parliament Trip

We took 28 students to London for the day, as a reward for their active citizenship as members of our school academy parliament. We completed a walking tour of the sights, including Buckingham Palace, the Horse Guard, Downing Street and Parliament Square.

In the afternoon, we were given a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament - seeing rooms like the House of Commons, House of Lords and the monarch's robing room.

The students behaved exemplarily and were really engaged, listened diligently and asked thoughtful questions throughout the tour to develop their knowledge of how democracy has developed and works in the UK.
