Black History Month

Added: November 8th, 2016

To mark the end of Black History Month and the start of the remembrance period, a group of students from Royds Hall Community School’s Secondary School went to visit our partner trust schools to present an assembly that combined the two themes.

At Beech, Golcar J,I and N School and St John’s J and I School the students told the children about Walter Tull who was a professional footballer who signed up to fight at the start of the First World War. He became the first black infantry officer in the history of the British army.

This is the first of a series of remembrance activities at the school including a trip to Belgium to visit the battlefields.
