Armistice Day

Added: November 16th, 2016

As part of a whole week of events to commemorate Armistice Day on Friday 11th November students have been involved in a range of activities.

A group of 30 students started the week off by travelling to Belgium to visit some of the war graves, they also attended a special ceremony at the Menin Gate in Ypres on Friday 11th November.

At school we held our special ceremony on Friday 11th at 11am when students from all year groups, including Beech and Luck Lane Primary took part in the ceremony in the school Mansion.  Jacob Pearson, year 7 student, did an excellent job of playing the last post on his cornet followed by readings from Head boy, Umair Afzal and Head girl, Martha Hughes.

Our special guests at the ceremony included Mrs Margaret Charlesworth, Mother of Anton Frampton, a former student who was killed in service in a bomb attack in Afghanistan. His sister, Miss Gemma Frampton also attended the ceremony. The whole event was filmed for Calendar and went out in the evening news on Friday 11th November. This included interviews with Anton’s Mum and Sister and with our Head Boy and Head Girl.

Later in the day our Senior Student senior team went with the Headteacher to Edgerton Cemetery to lay wreaths on the war grave of soldiers who died at the school when it was a war Hospital in 1917. this is a tradition which the school has continued for many years.
