Reception children donned hard hats and grabbed a shovel to herald the start of building work on a new multi-million pound community school.

The new primary at Royds Hall is being funded by Kirklees Council as a response to the need for extra school places.

The school will open in September 2016 and will provide an additional 420 primary school places in the state-of-the-art facilities over the next five years.

Over 1500 young people ages from 3 to 16 will be taught at the through school by 2020.

Headteacher, Melanie Williams is also looking forward to the new school and said:

“We are delighted that our new accommodation is becoming reality. Our children are excited and looking forward to the completion of the new facilities which will offer tremendous opportunities to our community.”
