Poetry Workshop For Diversity Week

Added: September 5th, 2017

London-based poet Keith Jarrett came to Royds and Beech as part of Diversity Week to run poetry workshops with classes at both schools. He also met with the school’s Diversity Group and learnt about what they do to promote inclusive approaches in schools. He shared his experiences of growing up as a gay person at a time when Clause 28 was the law and LGBTQ+ issues were not even spoken of in schools.

The poetry workshops were fantastic and students wrote about a wide variety of topics including their religion, racism, and chicken nuggets.
