Since 2014 students from Royds Hall Community School have been involved in an exciting venture with the residents of Sycamore Grange, a sheltered housing scheme managed by Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing. The project continues to thrive.

As a co-operative learning trust school, Royds Hall was keen to offer students an opportunity to learn with, and from, older people living within their local community by offering friendship and support to vulnerable adults. Every fortnight in term time the students meet up with residents of Sycamore Grange, a sheltered housing scheme managed by Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing. The group enjoy spending time together trying out a whole range of activities, from quizzes, internet surfing and even ten pin bowling! This project has created a better understanding between the older and younger people involved and builds on the positive resources that different generations have to offer to each other and those around them. The students have become more knowledgeable about the life histories of their new friends, comparing their lives to their own.
