The Humanities Department invited the up and coming band Beyond Recall to come into Royds Hall to perform for students from Year 7 to Year 10. The band played some of their own songs and a well-known cover that got students singing along. As well as the alternative rock music, the band talked to students about a variety of issues including mental health, racism and staying safe on line. The band based their talks on things that they had personally experienced as well as stories they had found out about through working with charities that support young people.

One student commented that it was very brave of lead singer Zaid to share his personal experiences with our school. Another added that the sessions really brought it home that bullying can be happening around us and that Beyond Recall’s work will help so much.

The band also got to work with the school’s Band Skills group. One of the group, Fletcher said, “It was a really useful experience as we got to talk with Beyond Recall about what it is like to be in a professional band, about the technical side and also about managing a band’s social media presence.
