Royds Hall Students Share Writings at WW1 Exhibition

Added: May 2nd, 2015

As the culmination of a project with Kirklees Community Heritage and Education Team, Huddersfield Library and Dewsbury Library are hosting an exhibition of reflections on the experience of Huddersfield conscientious objectors in the First World War. At the launch event two Royds Hall students, Mehwish Ali and Melissa Foster shared their writings in what was a very emotional event. We listened to work by students from other schools, performances by the Bent Architecture Theatre Company and historian Cyril Pearce.

There is work on display by many other students from the school and the exhibition will be on display for the next month if you are able to visit either of the libraries. The exhibition is also set to be displayed at an international conference next year marking the 100 years since the introduction of conscription in Britain for the First World War.
