STEM Awards Evening

On Thursday 15th May 2014, Royds Hall Community School, along with partner primary schools, sixth form colleges and Sheffield Hallam University held its annual STEM Awards Night. The event is a celebration of achievement in Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Technology.

Throughout the evening, over 100 elegant glass trophies were awarded to students for excellence in science, mathematics and the application of science in other subject areas of the curriculum. This also included students acting as Science or Maths Leaders in the school supporting events and working with other students.

Trophies were awarded to students from Royds Hall Community School, our partner primary schools – Paddock School, Spring Grove Primary School, Cowlersley Primary School, Reinwood Primary School, Golcar Junior & Infants, St Johns and Beech. They were also awarded to students from Greenhead College, Huddersfield New College and Kirklees College.

Our special guest was John Wardle, Director of the Centre for Science Education, Sheffield Hallam University who gave an inspiring talk about her fascinating experiences pursuing a Science-based career. John also presented the awards and was very popular with students who flocked to talk to him after the event.
Prior to the formal presentation students and their parents were treated to a range of exciting workshops including, a Planetarium, and Maths and Science challenges.

Over 200 students, parents, Governors and guests were present at this fabulous annual celebration event.
