Primary Children Welcome Their New Dog Friend, Ruby!

Added: April 28th, 2016

Following our appeal for dogs and their owners to come forward as Pets as Therapy volunteers we recently welcomed Heather and Ruby, her adorable dog.

The children in Year one at Royds were absolutely thrilled to welcome Ruby into their classroom. On the first visit Heather brought along Ruby’s grooming brushes so that the children could get to know her by brushing her very glossy coat. It was particularly interesting to see children who were initially quite nervous about meeting a dog, moving forward and gaining confidence in stroking and talking to Ruby.

Heather has kindly offered to come into Royds primary each week to spend time with reception and Year one children. Ruby will be listening to the children read and will hopefully be a calming and reassuring presence in the classroom.
We would like to welcome more dogs and their owners into our Trust schools so if anyone is interested then please get in touch with Caroline Marshall on 01484 463366.
