Farook Yunis and Irfan Mohamed from the community organisation Kumon Y’all came to talk to Year 10 GCSE Religious Studies students. They spoke about how Islam’s teachings on the environment are being put into practice in local projects in Kirklees such as litter picks and clearing waterways. They discussed several environmental teachings and then talked about how this impacted on the responsibility of stewardship.

Farook also told us about how Kumon Y’all build bridges between communities including inter-generational projects, football matches and a joint Yorkshire priests and imans cricket team who play against a similar team from Lancashire.

Year 10 student Ajbina said that the talk made her think about how people see their own religion and how they put their beliefs into actions. Abdur-Rahman added, “It is really helpful to hear people talk about their own religion and how it affects their lives.
