Students Learn About Streetlaw

Added: March 31st, 2017

Lawyers and student lawyers came into school to help Year 10s understand what is meant by the term Stop and Search. Running sessions for different classes, the group from BPP Professional Education presented their Streetlaw sessions that clarified what Stop and Search means in the law as well as what rights we have as individuals if we are stopped.

Helpful advice included that searches outdoors can only involve the removal of jackets, over clothing and gloves (JOG). We also learnt about how to respectfully and politely point out that we have the rights to know why we have been stopped, to be given  the name and station of the officer as well as knowing that we should get a record of the search. It was an excellent opportunity to learn this and much more from people who are experts in the field.
