Added: March 18th, 2014

Drop Everything And Read Week an innovative approach to promoting a lifelong love of reading among students, pioneered by Royds Hall Community School.

The process involves the integration of a twenty-minute reading period, every day for a period of one week, across all subjects and year groups.

Students are given the opportunity to read independently in lesson to boost confidence in and enjoyment in reading. One year 7 student said: “DEAR week has been great; I love reading in lessons – I’ve almost finished all of Cathy Cassidy’s books now.”

Not only do students enjoy the experience; all staff are encouraged to join in the fun! Mr. Morton, was delighted to get the opportunity to indulge his passion for reading. “What great fun, the kids get to read, and I can finally finish The Iliad.”
