Girls football

Over the course of the year, Girls Football has really developed through our joint training with Huddersfield Grammar School.

Our Year 7 team have had a fantastic year and show lots of potential. They won the Huddersfield Schools 5 a-side competition and then went on to represent Huddersfield SFA at the West Yorkshire Championships. Here the girls played teams from Calderdale, Wakefield and Halifax and although they played really well they didn’t win through to the next stage.

Our Year 8 team had a great season and they were runners up in the Huddersfield Schools 5 a-side tournament and they just missed out on winning the overall league title. On top of these successes they were selected to represent Huddersfield Town in the regional 6 a-side finals at Barnsley Football Clubs Academy ground. Here they came up against opposition from Doncaster Rovers, Hartlepool United, Barnsley FC and York City. The girls again played well but were up against some really tough opposition and didn’t progress.

We also ran a team at Year 10 level. Although they didn’t win any titles they have made superb progress in their skill levels and team play. This was noted by other schools who commented on how much the girls had improved in the tournaments we attended.

The school are really proud of the girls achievements as they show what hard work and commitment can achieve. Well done to all the girls and keep it up.

Jared Felix-Diop

We have a number of talented students in PE across a range of sports at school. One such student is Jared Felix-Diop who attends the Manchester City football Academy. Jared spends two afternoons a week at City’s training ground honing his skills. Over the years he has also had opportunities to play against other professional clubs at home and abroad. He has attended a number of overseas tournaments where his team have been successful.

Jared is also a valuable team member of the school football team and is a battling midfielder who adds strength down the central spine of the team. He has a real team focus and works hard every game to drive the team on to success. The school are proud of Jared’s achievements and wish him all the best for the future.
