Poetry Competition

Added: January 8th, 2015

During the last two weeks of term, we launched our very first Festive Poetry Competition. Students were invited to write a poem about any festive time that meant something to them; the entries ranged from Eid, to Christmas – and even Valentine’s Day!

We received over 50 entries, and the competition was extremely close in the end! It was a pleasure to have so many students taking part and, for some of you, trying something new. All those that took part should be proud of the fact that you created your own poem, and that they will be going on display, either along the English corridors, or in Room 21!

After a long deliberation, we decided that the winners of the competition were: Emily Whitehead, 4SA; Jack Ryan, 1CM; and Mehwish Ali, 1MA. There were also 14 runners up; the poems were so good that we couldn’t pick only three! Next year we are planning to launch the competition again, but even bigger than last time!

I’d like to say a huge thank you to all students that took part. Celebrating students’ talent was a lovely way to end my first term at Royds Hall, and 2014.
