45 very tired but excited students boarded the coach at 2-45 am to start the journey to Paris. A Seine cruise, visit to Sacre Coeur and the Eiffel Tower are planned before spending the day at Euro Disney.

DofE Silver Expedition: Final Day

Today our Silver award students were out on the final day of their expedition. Again, teamwork was excellent, as were their hiking and navigation skills… including on some tricky moorland terrain.

All students passed their expedition with flying colours! A huge well done!

PE Football Visit

The PE department took a group of students to watch the England under 21 football team last night. The students were selected because of their hard work and commitment in PE lesson and extra-curricular activities. They were credit to themselves and the school.

Economics Event at Greenhead College for Year 10 Business Studies students

Ten Year 10 Business Studies students went to Greenhead College this morning for an Economics Event run by A Level students. The morning consisted of different presentations, a task, group presentations and a quiz with winners at the end. It was a very enjoyable morning with one of the Royds Hall teams coming 5th place out of 16 teams! Very well done to all!

Students and staff have braved the snowy conditions to attend tonight’s DofE Awards Presentations at Huddersfield Town Hall.

ICT department getting into the Christmas spirit!

The ICT department at Royds Hall have been using the ‘Santa Tracker’ website in lessons to get into the Christmas spirit today! The Google Santa Tracker is an annual Christmas-themed entertainment program made by Google that allows users to not only track Santa but also play, watch and learn using activities related to coding aimed at school children.

Yesterday, a handful of our secondary students visited the Syngenta chemical factory in Huddersfield.

Black Tudors

Miss Bisson, Mr Lightowler and Mr Woffenden are finding out about Black Tudors in a lecture by Miranda Kaufman discussing the lives of four very different individuals.

Royds Hall Humanities Department At BBC History Weekend in York

Members of the Humanities Department are at the BBC History Weekend in York. Yesterday Mr Woffenden went to lectures about the history of Catholicism and then one about Cornwall.

This morning Mr Lightowler and Mr Woffenden are at a lecture on the history of slavery by James Walvin. The lecture looks at how we can see the legacy of slavery in all kinds of objects like Turner’s painting.

The lecture highlighted how the mahogany furniture that was made from the wood that was cut down by enslaved people became fashionable in homes of rich families in Britain and North America.

Walvin also reminded us of how cowrie shells that came from the Maldives and were used to buy human beings in the Slave

What a privilege to be in the Jo Cox Theatre in Batley today to see Les Miserables School Edition! Fabulous performances by our wonderful former students Loren McIvor, Tom Sheldon and Michael Frith, who was simply stunning in the lead role of Jean Valjean.

Well done to Adam in Year 9 on sixth place overall in the West Yorkshire Youth Games individual event. 

A huge well done to Isaac in Year 7 who has made fantastic progress in cycling and showed amazing resilience finishing 11th overall against much older students.
