Modern Foreign Languages

german-trip

"A little language makes a lot of difference! English is not enough" - Trevor MacDonald

Staff names, responsibilities and what makes them passionate about this subject:

Brigitte Taylor – Leader of Learning Modern Languages

"I enjoyed learning several Languages at school in Köln (Cologne), Germany, where I was born and found that moving to England 22 years ago many people did not see the relevance of learning a Foreign Language. Promoting Foreign Languages within the school by motivating students towards learning other languages to enhance real life opportunities by communicating with other cultures thus breaking down the barriers that bar progress as I believe that 'English is not enough.'"

"Using a language is a social activity and Language learning leads to encounters with people from many backgrounds."

"I think speaking with people from different cultures is very enriching and Languages enable you to do this. It's a challenge, it's enriching – it opens your mind to understanding other people but it also affects you in your own life."

Lee Whitham – Teacher of German and Spanish

"I love using language, especially when I go on holiday and chat to the locals. I teach Spanish and German, but can also speak French. When you are able to speak one language, picking up more is quite easy. I enjoy fun lessons and love to see and hear students showing off their skills in a foreign Language."
