The subject explained

Humanities is made up of History, Geography, RE and PSHCE

Key Stage 3 History

Year 7: The history of Royds Hall, the history of Huddersfield, Who was the best King?, Pirates
Year 8: The Tudors, the Gunpowder Plot, the Civil War, Cromwell, The French Revolution, the Industrial Revolution
Year 9: The events of September 11 2001, African reactions to the Slave Trade, World War I, Civilians in World War II, the Holocaust, the world since 1945.


Key Stage 4 History


Year 10 and 11: We study two GCSE History courses. The Modern World History course covers the main events of the 20th century, including the two world wars. The SHP History course looks at a range of themes such as Medicine Through Time, Terrorism, and Nazi Germany.

Key Stage 3 Geography


Year 7: Where are we?, Exploring England, People Everywhere, Rivers and Floods, Restless earth, World of sport, Weather
Year 8: Climate, Ecosystems, Brazil, Coastal Environments, Energy, Tourism
Year 9: Development, Antarctica, Comparing Countries, Global Fashion Industry, Environmental issues, Geography in the news.


Key Stage 4 Geography

Year 10 : How are levels of development contrasting? How are water and food supplies varied over the globe? How are Town Centres changing? How are resources depleting? Population, How can we manage economic development? How do people live with tectonic hazards?
Year 11: What are the pressures on the urban rural fringe? How can Weather hazards have an impact on people and the environment? How does Tourism affect the economy of a country? What are the pressures on the physical environment? What is Rural to urban migration?


Key Stage 3 RE

Year 7: Rules for living a good life, Religion in Huddersfield, the life of Jesus, Creation stories
Year 8: A study of the main world religions
Year 9: Can I make sense of it? Science versus religion, Martin Luther King, Hinduism, The Holocaust

Key Stage 4 RE

All students study the Edxcel GCSE short course on religion and Life which covers 5 units: Marriage and the Family, Social Harmony, Believing in God, Issues of Life and Death, Wealth and Poverty
