Letter from the Head
Welcome to Royds Hall High School!
Royds Hall High School is a successful and popular Specialist College for Science and Mathematics, which caters for approximately 800 students, aged 11-16, and with a growing national reputation for excellence.
We are delighted to have:
- staff with a passion for learning and real commitment to developing excellence in their students
- happy, confident students who want to achieve and who express a real pride in their school
- calm and purposeful learning environments
- excellent relationships and partnerships between students, staff, parents, governors and community
- high quality resources and accommodation for first-class education in the 21st century
Our progress has been confirmed through a range of national measures:
- Ofsted in November 2008 recognised our achievements and confirmed our potential for excellence in the future describing us as ‘a good school with some outstanding features’.
- Our GCSE results in 2009 were the best in the history of the school, with 72% of students achieving 5+ A*-C, 45% achieving 5 A*-C including English and Maths and 99% of students achieved 5+A*-G grades at GCSE. All these figures represent significant increases for the third year running.
- In July 2008 we achieved the prestigious BECTA ICT Mark for the excellence of our use of ICT throughout the school.
- In addition, we are proud to be in the top 100 schools nationally for sustained improvement between Key Stages 2 and 3, and the top 200 schools nationally for sustained improvement at GCSE for 5 A*-C including English and Maths.
Our school is enriched by its diversity. Approximately 40 per cent of students are from various ethnic minorities and, with more than 26 languages and 20 countries represented in school, we take great pride in our role at the heart of the local community. We welcome visits to the school - please ring to make an appointment. I look forward to meeting you and your child.
