The Independent Learning Centre

An extensive programme of enrichment activities expands students' experiences and there is an emphasis on developing more opportunities for students to be able to engage in enterprise activities.” - Ofsted, Nov 2008

The ILC is a vibrant and busy place with an excellent selection of resources. Located in a large, bright room the ILC has built up an excellent collection of fiction and non-fiction books and a growing selection of other media.

The ILC has 15 networked computers and a number of laptops which may be used anywhere in the ILC. All have access to the online library catalogue and to the internet and are used for research and project work. An interactive whiteboard is used by both teachers and the librarian, Mrs. Kaye.

The librarian is assisted by a team of Year 7 and 8 student librarians, as well as senior student librarians.

The ILC hold reading clubs for Year 7 & 8 students which meets regularly to discuss popular fiction books. Throughout the year displays, activities and competitions are run in conjunction with wider literary events such as World Book Day and newly published fiction books.

For more information about forthcoming events please visit the ILC web page.
