Following student feedback,at the end of the 2009/10 summer term, RE was replaced by ERIC at Royds Hall. The reason for this was that RE had been seen by some people as a subject that was about teaching people about how they should be good at following a religion. RE was never meant to be about but the title of Religious Education can easily be misunderstood. So we asked students what they thought the subject should be about and we came up with four areas that should be covered in our ERIC lessons:
Ethics - Ethics are the values by which we live our lives.
Religion - The belief system some of us have about God or gods and that some of us don’t.
Ideas - Big ideas about our existence.
Citizenship - How we participate in our society and world. The course from Years 7 to 11 follows these themes and develops the whole person.
