We believe that developing creativity and imagination in students is a fundamental part of high quality education for students and Royds Hall is delighted to be involved in the Creative Partnerships programme. This programme brings creative workers such as artists, architects and scientists into schools to work with teachers to inspire young people and help them learn. Independent research shows that:
"Young people who have attended Creative Partnerships activities made, on average, the equivalent of 2.5 grades better progress in GCSE than similar young people in other schools." National Foundation of Educational Research (NFER). Recent research by Ofsted also found that schools that had taken part in the programmes showed "notable improvements in their levels of achievement and in measurable aspects of personal development, such as attendance."
During the past year a group of students from all age groups has been working with Impossible Theatre to identify ways to help new students develop skills for creative learning. They devised activities to help everyone work together as part of our Vertical Tutor programmed. Activities focus on essential 'Big Brain' skills such as self management, creative thinking, team work, participation and communication, independent enquiry and reflective learning.
Students in Years 7 and 11 also shared a sensory introduction to the year on the first day back in September - take a look at the Transition Project in News and Events!
The Creative Partnerships programme will develop further in the coming year.
