Welcome from the Headteacher

Welcome to Royds Hall High School!
'Teachers know you; it's not so much a school, more like a second home!'
Student comment to Ofsted September 2011
Royds Hall High School is a successful and popular Specialist College for Science and Mathematics, which caters for approximately 825 students, aged 11-16, and with a national reputation for excellence.
We are delighted to have:
- staff in all areas with a passion for learning and total commitment to maximising the potential of the young people in their care
- happy, confident students who want to achieve and who express a real pride in their school
- calm and purposeful learning environments
- excellent relationships and partnerships between students, staff, parents, governors and community
- high quality resources and accommodation for first-class education in the 21st century
Our progress has been confirmed through a range of national measures:
- Our results at GCSE show a pattern of continuous improvement year on year, with results in 2011 the best in the history of the school, with 82% of students achieving 5+ A*-C, 54% achieving 5 A*-C including English and Maths and 100% 5 A*-G.
- We achieved Artsmark Gold at our first attempt in June 2010, are a Creative Partnerships School and hold the prestigious BECTA ICT Mark for the excellence of our use of ICT throughout the school.
- We are proud to be in the top 200 schools nationally for sustained improvement of 15% or more at GCSE 5 A*-C including English and Maths.
- Ofsted in September 2011 recognised our achievements, a well-established trend of improvements, and mutually respectful relationships between students and teachers which result in confident learners who make 'remarkable progress'.
- We are one of only two Specialist Schools and Academies Trust Leadership and Innovation Hub Schools, involving us in identifying and sharing best practice across Yorkshire and Humberside and offer excellent opportunities for professional development. We hold the SSAT Inclusive Schools Award and the SSAT Consultant Schools Award at Advanced Level.
Our school is enriched by its diversity. Approximately 40 per cent of students are from various ethnic minorities and, with more than 26 languages and 30 countries represented in school, we take great pride in our role at the heart of the local community. We welcome visits to the school - our students are the best ambassadors for their school and would be delighted to show you round. Please ring to make an appointment.
Thank you for your interest in the school. I look forward to meeting you and your child.
